Beverly HubbardBeverly Hubbard age 85 of Tracy passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy.  Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 21 at the Tracy United Methodist Church.  There will be no visitation.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Bev’s name may be made to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall, Minnesota.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Beverly (Kassel) Hubbard was born in Holly Township on December 29, 1927 to Fred and Ilo Kassel.  Beverly met Melvin Hubbard in Tracy and they were married on June 18, 1948.  Mel and Bev had three children.  Bev was an involved mother.  In addition to activities with her own children, Bev taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at the Methodist church.  Bev was an avid gardener and maintained a beautiful backyard garden for years.    She collected leaves and hunted for bittersweet and other plants to dry for her arrangements.  For entertainment, Bev enjoyed reading novels, and gardening and travel magazines.  She enthusiastically played bridge, Bunco and YAHTZEE.  Bev delighted in children.  In her senior years, she was known as the “Lemon Drop Lady” to the Tracy children who stopped for a lemon drop on their way home from the Tracy pool.  Family was very important to Bev.  She always enjoyed her Kassel family reunions and birthday celebrations with her brothers and sisters.  In June, Bev and Mel celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary quietly together.  She remarked that she achieved her goal of living to see that special day.

Bev was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Kassel; and her sisters, Erma Hatch and Melba Carlson.  She is survived by her husband Melvin; children: Alan (Bobbie), Debbie, and Brian (Jane); grandsons: Matthew and Brandon; and brother, Francis Kassel.

  1. Bev- We are sure going to miss you. Like a friend said you will be with Erma , this Christmas. That made me feel a little better. Sending my deepest sympathy to your family. Mel-( Birthday buddy), if you need anything just call. The legend of the lemon drop lady will be told for years to come and her kindness will hopefully be passed on to all that knew her. Sorry I will not be able to go to the funeral but i will be sending my love in the meal that is served. Big hugs, Sheila Lavoie

  2. We are so sorry to read the news of Bev’s passing. We have truly lost a good friend.
There is not enough words to express the wonderful person Bev was to the Gabel family. Not only was she the”lemon drop lady” she also stepped in as a surrogate grandma going to ” grandparents day” at the school for my children when their own grandparents couldn’t make it. She sat with my children in church when I was busy with choir. We had many good times together at circle, bible study, and many church/community activities. I know Mel and Bev served their church in joy and love. She left an impression on the Gabel family and our lives were forever touched. We know she is resting in the arms of her Savior. Our prayers and thoughts are with her family.

Wes, Diane, Sarah, Debbie, John, and Joe
