David E. Bowman age 85 of Tracy formerly of Wayne County, Ohio entered eternal rest Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home in Walnut Grove. 

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Funeral and committal services will be held later in the week in Orrville, Ohio.  Interment is in Paradise Cemetery in Greene Township, near Smithville, Ohio.   The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. David’s family requests no flowers, and memorials are preferred to: Christian & Missionary Alliance Men, 300 S. Walnut St., Orrville, OH 44667.

David E. Bowman was born December 24, 1924 at the family home between Creston and Burbank, Ohio to Glenn and Mary (Barnard) Bowman.  He graduated from Burbank High School in 1942.  David joined the US Marine Corp in 1943 and served 2-1/2 years overseas with duty in New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Midway, and campaigns in Guam and Iwo Jima.  He achieved the rank of Corporal and received the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Combat, Good Conduct, Expert Rifleman and Mortar Signalman awards.  David was united in marriage to Dorothy Nussbaum on March 14, 1946 in Orrville, Ohio.  The couple was blessed with two children: Norman, who lives in Spain doing mission work with mission outreaches in the Ukraine, and Anna Jeanne in Minnesota who is a farm wife, piano teacher, and accompanist.  David was a successful Registered Holstein breeder for 44 years with cattle in foreign countries.  David was an experienced plumber and District Manager for Cargill Seed Company.  He enjoyed painting and writing poems when inspired. David loved singing in the church choir and was a tenor annually in the community choir, performing Handel’s Messiah which was his favorite. He was the Tracy Senior Center’s “Pancake Man,” and was instrumental in the restoration of the Historic Lamberton Blacksmith Shop.  David also spent many hours helping to build the Lamberton Community Center.  David was a member and served as trustee and deacon for the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches in Orrville and Wooster, Ohio, and also belonged to the Storden Baptist Church in Storden, Minnesota and Agapé Fellowship in Marshall, Minnesota.  David was a member of the National, State, and County Holstein Associations, and Farm Bureau

David is survived by a person close to his heart, Idella Snavely of Kidron, Ohio; his children Norman (Gwendolyn) Bowman of Barcelona, Spain and Anna Jeanne (Bruce) Flesner of Tracy; 8 grandchildren: Carl (Patti) Bowman of Itasca, IL, Natasha (Roberto) Serrano of Barcelona, Spain, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Bowman of Elgin, IL, Benjamin (Kristin) Bowman of Durham, NC, Sarah Flesner of Granite Shoals, TX, Lydia (David) McKay of Bellingham, WA, Daniel (Christina) Flesner of Bellingham, WA, and Reuben (Rebecca) Flesner of Bloomington, MN; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Ruth Phillips of Lake Junaluska, NC, Wilbur (Joan) Bowman of Los Alamos, NM, Thelma Dynes of Carmichael, CA; sister-in-law Marge Bowman of Creston, OH; foster sons Thomas Yoho of Marshal, NC, and Russell Yoho of Wooster, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy in 2005, brother Harold, nephew Robert, and brother-in-law Carlisle Phillips, Jr.
