Denis ZachariasonDenis Gerald “Zach” Zachariason age 65 of Morton passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at his home after a bout with cancer.  Visitation will be held on Friday 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 pm Friday.  Interment will be held at a later date.  Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Zach was born May 23, 1952 in Blue Earth, MN to Gerald and Shirley (Lyon) Zachariason.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Zach attended Morton Public School before graduating high school in 1970 in Albuquerque, NM.  Zach enlisted in the US Navy on November 1, 1971.  He received his Honorable Discharge April 3, 1972.  After his service, Zach resided in Morton.  On December 29, 1972, he married Debra Holmes in Watertown, SD.  They had two children, Chad & Dawn.  Zach worked for Schult Homes, and he managed the Morton Liquor Store for ten years.  He worked in Oregon for several years.  He enjoyed being there, and loved the mountains.  Zach was a master carpenter.  He could build anything.  For the past twelve years, Zach worked at Redwood Building Center where he enjoyed the many great people.  Zach looked forward to the 4th of July Celebrations with his family all being home.  Zach was a member of the Morton Fire Department for many years.  He loved riding the trike that he built and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.  He also liked playing pool and bowling.

Zach is survived by his children: Chad Zachariason and Allison of Redwood Falls and Dawn (Corey) Gluesing of Olivia; grandchildren: Cheyenne, Amber, April, Carter, Brooklynn, Devin & Caeden; his ex-wife Debra Holmes (fiancé Steve Hammerschmidt) of Redwood Falls; siblings: Nick (Judy) Zachariason of New London, Julie Z. (Michael) Musser of Cleveland, MN & Kelley Zachariason of North Mankato; his dog Sadie, and many other relatives and great friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

  4. I was in the Navy with Zach. We were stationed together in Philadelphia for around a year. He was a very funny man then. Sorry to hear he is gone
