Urban “Judge” Fischer age 92 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Morgan, passed away Wednesday December 5, 2012 at the Redwood Area Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 10 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan.

Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.  Interment is in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Urban Fischer was born October 23, 1920 on the family farm near Morgan to Albert “A.C.” and Ursula (Braunger) Fischer.  He received the sacraments at St. Michael’s in Morgan.  Judge attended St. Michael’s Catholic School and graduated from Morgan Public High School in 1938.  He was drafted in the US Army on July 9, 1942 and served as a heavy truck driver in Normandy, northern France, and central Europe during WWII.  He received his Honorable Discharge November 10, 1945.  On November 25, 1946 Judge was united in marriage to Lois Sandmann at the church parsonage.  Judge worked for Wally Zaske’s Service Station for many years.  He began farming in the late 50’s in Sherman Township until the mid 80’s.  In the early 90’s Judge began working at Jackpot Junction where he worked for many years until he was well into his 80’s.  Judge was a member of the Morgan VFW.  He enjoyed going to sales barns and auctions, going to Jackpot Junction to play Blackjack, and watching sports, especially the Minnesota sports teams.  Judge was an avid reader of books and newspapers, and loved spending time with his family.

Judge is survived by his children: Tom Fischer of Minneapolis, Cheryl (Dan) Pool of Palm Desert, CA, Glenn Fischer of Redwood Falls, Denise Kerkhoff of Redwood Falls, and Mark (Mary) Fischer of Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Chad Pool, Danielle Murdock, Stephanie (Dan) Bauman, Amy (Tom) Kingore, Tanar (Courtney) Kerkhoff, Ashlee Kerkhoff, Tyson Kerkhoff, Jessica Fischer, and Mitchell Fischer; great grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Kyle Pool, Jadyn Murdock, Keegan and Jaycee Bauman, Maddi Kerkhoff, Ariana and Ava Kerkhoff, and Haedyn and Jeffrey Neegan.  He is also survived by siblings: Ruth Doherty of New Prague, Ralph Fischer of Olivia, Clair (Gwen) Fischer of Morgan, and Alice Steffl of New Ulm; in-laws: Shirley Sandmann, Elnor (George) MacDonald, Doris Sandmann, and Dick (Bev) Sandmann; and many other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, and son-in-law Stan Kerkhoff.
