Lloyd L. Gullickson, age 82 of Slayton passed away at his residence on Monday, November 23, 2009 surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment is in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Lloyd Gullickson, the youngest son of Henry and Alma (Larsen) Gullickson was born on March 1, 1927 in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. He received his schooling in the Walnut Grove area. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Govig. He was a member of English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove where he served as a deacon, trustee and head usher. He was also a member of American Legion Post 267 for many years. Lloyd enlisted in the Navy in World War II at an early age. Lloyd served on the Bunker Hill and Capricornus ships. After his honorable discharge he returned to Walnut Grove and worked for the railroad.

Lloyd and Betty (Burns) were married on May 6, 1952 in Tracy, Minnesota by Rev. Abrestad. They spent the first ten years of their married life in California working at the defense plant. Lloyd was a pattern maker there. In 1961 they returned to Walnut Grove and purchased their farm. After 26 years of farming they retired and moved to their lake home on Lake Shetek. Lloyd and Betty spent many of their winters in Arizona. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, boating, playing cards, collecting small FARMALL tractors, and having coffee with his friends at Carlson’s Corner when his health permitted.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Richard, Leonard, Clifford, Emerald, Ellsworth, and Sterling; three sisters: Mildred Heggerston, Ardys Haugen, and Beatrice Addison; godson Mark Gullickson of Blooming Prairie, nephews: Gary Gullickson of Saline, KS and Duane Gullickson of IA.

Grateful for having shared his life include his devoted wife Betty of Slayton; daughter Jil and son-in-law Wynn Philbrick of Chokio, granddaughter Brooke Williams of the US Navy of Hanford, CA; great grandchildren: Ariel & Devan Sanders of Hanford, CA; sister Norma Jean (Myron) Slotsve of Lakeville; brother Darold “Buddy” of Walnut Grove; godsons: Kevin Burns of Chanhassen & Shawn Burns of Naples, FL.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, hugs, support and caring throughout Lloyd’s journey with COPD. A special thanks to this caregivers, Dr. Carol Lang and staff of the Murray Hospice in Slayton. They are the best! We will mourn his passing, but move forward with gratitude for the blessing he provided in each of our lives.
