Hans “Hal” “Papa” Earl Halvorson, age 80 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Sparta, WI, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls, MN. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls is assisting family with arrangements.

Hal was born on February 24, 1934 in Decorah, IA to Alfred and Inez (Strom) Halvorson. After Hal finished his schooling he entered the U.S. Marine Corps. Hal served in the Korean War as military police. He received his honorable discharge. Hal then made his home in South Minneapolis where he met and married Nancy Beaudreau. They raised 6 children together. Hal worked at Tempco Manufacturing as a machinist for many years. The family later moved to Cass Lake, MN where Hal worked as a custodian for school district 115. He retired and moved to Sparta, WI. In the spring of 2012 Hal moved to Redwood Falls to be closer to his family. He was a very hard worker and provided well for his family. Hal had a great sense of humor and was a huge Vikings fan. He enjoyed traveling to the cabin and to resorts to spend time with his family. Hal especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Debbie Halvorson (John Pearson) of Redwood Falls, Lorri (Galyn) Minkel of Redwood Falls, Cheryl (John) Donnelly of Pipestone, Tim Beaudreau of Bemidji and Joseph (Sharon) Beaudreau of Bemidji; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; sisters Ilene (Jim) Bernhardt of Dike, IA and Ila (Kenny) Wangness of Allison, IA; 8 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and great- great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, step father Harold Hoeppner, son Kenny Beaudreau, and grandson Timothy David Beaudreau.

    Many of my fondest childhood memories and some of the only ones I have are of always coming to see you aunt Nancy, Cheryl Lori Kenny timmy and joey with my my mom and dad, and getting my cheeks pinched by the gals lol, well you can say hello to chuck for me and the grand kids we miss him and I will miss you too and hold you forever in my heart and mind and family stories always
