Phyllis Marcella (Janachovsky) Hengel age 86 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Lucan, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Wood Dale Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth.  Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with a prayer service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.  Interment is in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Phyllis Marcella Hengel was born May 27, 1926 in Westline Township to Frank and Mary (Benedict) Janachovsky.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan.  Phyllis attended country school #79, St. Anne’s in 7th and 8th grade, and graduated from West Central Ag School in Morris.  On September 16, 1947 she was united in marriage to Norbert Hengel at Our Lady of Victory in Lucan.  They farmed near Milroy and then near Belgrade for a few years.  They moved to the home farm in Sheridan Township in 1954 where Phyllis has since resided.  She worked at Control Data, Jackpot Junction, and Western Community Action as a volunteer driver after she retired.  Phyllis was a member of Council of Catholic Women at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth.  She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, needlepoint, and doing ceramics.  Phyllis loved to dance, especially the polka, play piano, and listen to old time music.  She also loved having the grandchildren and great grandchildren around.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Diane (Allen) Rohlik of Renville, Daniel (Deb) Hengel of Elbow Lake, David Hengel of Milroy, Juanita (Bunny) Then of Alexandria, Julie (Dave) Rothmeier of Wabasso, Jill (Bruce) Schwitalla of Buffalo, and Darlene (Curt) Thomez of Waterville; daughter-in-law Suzi Hengel of Colorado Springs, CO; 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Norbert, sons Jeffrey and Douglas, daughter Judy, grandchildren Jennifer Hengel, and Lisa and Mark Rohlik, brothers Robert and Raymond, and infant brother Felix.
