Gloria E. Jacobs age 90 of Walnut Grove passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at English Lutheran Church. 

Visitation is 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home.  Interment is Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.  Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gloria E. Jacobs was born July 17, 1922 on a farm near Westbrook to August and Louisa (Eichner) Mischke.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  She attended several country schools and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1940, and later from Minneapolis Business College.  Gloria worked at the Walnut Grove Creamery and for PCA in Redwood Falls for a number of years.  On September 24, 1946 Gloria was united in marriage to Dwight Jacobs at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.  Together the couple lived south of Walnut Grove all their married life.  She worked at the Walnut Grove Sales Barn and served as secretary at English Lutheran Church until her retirement.  Dwight passed away March 1994.  Gloria continued living on the homestead until moving into Country View Apartments in 2007.  She was active at the Wilder Museum and was in the pageant for many years.  Gloria was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 20th Century Club, and Keenagers Club.  She also worked as an ambulance EMT.  Gloria was very active in church with the Santal Mission, WELCA, quilting group, choir, teaching Sunday School, and assisting Dwight as janitor.  She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers, traveling, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.  Gloria loved doing needlework and spending time with her family.

Gloria is survived by her children: Gary (Janet) Jacobs of Wells, Lorna (Charles) Dibley of Vermillion, SD, and Luana (Randy) Van Maanen of Lismore; grandchildren: Sarah (Jeff) Nordell, Laura (David) Phillips, John (Leah) Jacobs, Jeremiah (Kamden) Dibley, Jacob (Olivia) Dibley, Jennifer (fiancé Robert Stewart) Dibley, Rebecca Van Maanen, and Amanda Van Maanen; great grandchildren: Brandon Nordell, Peyton and Molly Phillips, Ella, Lilyanne, and Evangeline “Eva” Jacobs, and Philip Dibley; sister-in-law Janet Mischke of Westbrook; many special nephews; and other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dwight, and brothers Marvin and Willard “Bud” Mischke.
