Jan MischkeJanice “Jan” Kaye Mischke age 72 of Westbrook passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at her home.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 20 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.   Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Janice “Jan” Kaye Mischke was born August 8, 1942 in Willmar, Minnesota to Kenneth and Gloria (Bauchle) Jenkins.  She was baptized on November 1, 1942 in Willmar and confirmed her faith in 1955 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, Minnesota.  She attended Worthington Public School.  On October 2, 1963, Jan married Duaine Dale Mischke.  Following their marriage, the couple made their home near Westbrook, and they were blessed with four children.  Their marriage later dissolved.  Jan drove school bus for 18 years, worked as a waitress at the Elkhorn Inn, and did farm work for several local farmers.  She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was active in the quilting group.  Jan was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Eagles and the Elks.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and quilting.  She was a very crafty person, collected apple décor, and often went “garage sale-ing” She loved horseback riding, rollerskating, and dancing.  Jan enjoyed the mountains of Colorado where she went 4-wheeling and snowmobiling.  Spending time with her grandchildren was of most importance to Jan.

Jan is survived by her children: Cynthia (Kevin) Burns of Webster, LeeLand (Jayne) Mischke of Craig, CO, Scott (Debra) Mischke of New Market, and Kevin (Cindy) of Westbrook; her parents: Kenneth and Gloria Jenkins of Worthington; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister Jerry Brewer of Craig, CO; brothers: Jim (Sandy) Jenkins of Farmington, and Jeff Jenkins of Brewster; and special friend Denny Erickson of Storden.  She is preceded in death by her grandparents.

  2. Cindy: I am so sorry to hear about Jan. Jocelyn called and told me. She thought so much of her as I always have. Words cannot express the pain and sadness for you all at this time but please know that you and your family are in my prayers and thoughts. I was blessed to have talked to all of you at Jocelyn and David’s wedding and she seemed to be having a great time. That is how I will always remember her.     Just wanted you to know how sorry I am to hear of your Mom’s passing. I have many fond memories of fun with all of you. Your Mom was a hard worker, had a great sense of humor and a real flair about her. She was a real constant in our lives.
