Wayne J. Lange

Wayne J. Lange age 87 of Pipestone passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.  Private services will be held.  Memorials are preferred to Pipestone County Hospice, 916 4th Avenue Southwest, Pipestone MN 56164.  A special thank you goes to Pipestone County Hospice for their loving care of Wayne and support to his family during his final days at home.  The Tyler Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Wayne J. Lange was born November 7, 1923 in Canby to Gustav and Sarah (Muller) Lange.  He was baptized in the Presbyterian faith and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone.  Wayne attended Pipestone schools.  He entered the Army March 1, 1943, and was a part of the WW II troops who liberated two concentration camps in Germany.  Wayne was honorably discharged February 1, 1946.  On October 10, 1947 he was united in marriage to Meredith Haney in Ruthton.  On January 1, 1956, Wayne and Meredith began their business, Lange Hardware.  He did sheet metal and gutter work along with heating and air conditioning.  Wayne and Meredith continued to work at the business after their retirement.  Wayne made bird feeders for friends and family.  He took great pride in his lawn, and loved watching and identifying the many birds that visited his feeders.

Wayne is survived by his wife Meredith of 64 years; his two daughters and their husbands: Catherine (Mike) Roe and Jane (Rick) Melcher; grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, Daniel and Bryan Roe, Jennifer and Michael Melcher; great-grandchildren Spencer and Landon Roe, Jackson and Braxton Melcher; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Doreen Hansen.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roy, Les, and Wes and sisters Mavis and Leila.
