Arlene Elizabeth Lewis was born April 9, 1917, to Frank and Hattie (McCollister) Beebout in

Columbia, Iowa.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith.  In 1920 her family

moved to the Milroy, MN, area where she later attended country school and Milroy Public

School.

On October 1, 1935, Arlene married Lloyd Lewis in Redwood Falls:  they made their home on a farm south of Milroy.  After moving to another farm farther south of Milroy and living there for several years, they bought a farm in 1948 south of Walnut Grove.  In 1990 they sold the farm and moved into Walnut Grove.  Lloyd died on January 16, 1995.   Arlene continued to live there until 2003 when she moved to Yankton, South Dakota, to live closer to her sons.

For many years, Arlene was employed as a nurse at the Tracy Hospital.  She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Walnut Grove.  She enjoyed close friendships with other members and also spent time with family and neighbors.  Her cats were a comfort and joy in her later years.

Arlene died October 26th, 2011, at the Sister James Care Center in Yankton, SD at the age of 94.

She is survived by her son, Donald (Linda) of Yankton , daughter Muriel (Ed) Cunningham of Cincinnati, granddaughter Kirsten of Covington, Kentucky,  as well as many nieces and nephews.  Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; one son, Kenneth, one sister, Maxine, and three brothers, Clint, Cleve, and Chester.
