Sharon M. Ockwig age 61 of Clements passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 30 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.  Interment is in the Fairview Cemetery in Renville. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Sharon Ockwig was born September 9, 1948 in Farmington, Minnesota to Carl F. W. and Myrtle (Torgelson) Janke Sr. During her childhood the family resided in Bloomington, MN where Sharon and her three sisters joined the Esther B. Bowles Dance Troop in 1953.  They participated in recitals at State Hospitals as the Happiness Troop.  They left the group in November 1958 when the family moved to Mound, MN, where Sharon graduated from Mound Senior High in 1966.  She married Gerald Dale Ockwig January 17, 1970 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior, MN.  Sharon worked for Prudential Insurance Company 1966 to 1979, when the family moved to Southwestern Minnesota.  They resided in Delhi until 1986; and Sharon worked at MPI.  After moving to Redwood Falls, she remained with MPI/Zytec/Artesyn Technologies for 20 years.  While working at Artesyn, she was a part-time student at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Worthington.  After the Artesyn downsize in October 2001, she made a career change and received a Medical Secretary Diploma at Granite Falls Vo-Tech in May of 2003.  She worked part-time for CopyMed Inc. in Fridley, MN as a Release of Information Clerk contracted with the Redwood Area Hospital; and for a short time she was a part-time Nurse Aide at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Springfield while she worked full-time at Jackpot Junction Casino as a beverage server, then transferred to the Count Team, and in December 2008 transferred to the Vault as a Supervising Head Cashier.  The family raised several K-9 friends.  Sharon liked to crotchet, tinker in the flower beds and spend quiet time outside listening to and watching birds.  After she lost her husband she moved to Clements.

 

Sharon is survived by her son C. N. Reed Ockwig; grand-daughter Journey Marie Ockwig; god-daughter Erin Jean Ockwig; three brothers: Carl (Jody) Janke Jr., Paul (Maureen) Janke and Richard Janke; three sisters: Carol Fedke (friend Jim), Doris Bissell and Patricia (Donald) Ockwig; a very dear friend for many years Jean Voelz; six sister-in-laws; two brother-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Dale Ockwig, brother Kenneth Wayne Janke and step-son Gerald Jr., as well as her parents, grandparents and four brother-in-laws.
