Richard DrexlerRichard John Drexler, age 90 of Redwood Falls formerly of Sleepy Eye, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 at Redwood Valley Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service and rosary to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard John Drexler was born June 2, 1928 to John and Otillia (Neid) Drexler in Leavenworth Township, Minnesota.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.  Richard also attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through eighth grade.  He lived in Leavenworth Township for the first 22 years of his life.  On June 14, 1950, Richard married LaMay Nachreiner at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield.  The couple then moved to Walnut Grove for six years.  Later they lived in Fairfax for five years and eventually in 1961 they moved to Redwood Falls, where they have been ever since.  Throughout Richard’s lifetime he helped out with farming jobs. In the sixties he hauled milk and eggs from various farms.  Richard was also a truck driver working for companies hauling livestock, grain, freight and fuel locally and in the Midwest states for many years.  Later, he was Chief Maintenance Engineer for Redwood County Courthouse for 14 years, until he retired in 1990.  Religion was an important part of Richard’s life he was a member of Knights of Columbus, Third Degree of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and he often ushered for church services.  He enjoyed fishing and belonged to the North American Fishing Club.  To pass the time Richard liked to tinker and fix things in his garage and do yardwork.  He enjoyed going to Twins baseball and Vikings football games with friends.  Richard loved having coffee and visiting with his friends, family and relatives.

Richard is survived by his wife LaMay of Redwood Falls; son Allen (Rebecca) Drexler of Blaine; granddaughter Theresa Drexler of Blaine; sister Theresa (Terry) Prekker of Willmar; sister-in-law Susie Drexler of Willmar; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents John & Otillia, sisters Frances Augustin & Ann Schmid, and brothers Carl Drexler & Tom Drexler Sr.

    My deepest sympathy to the Richard Drexler Family. Uncle Rick will miss you though will have the memories of family gatherings, fishing and camping together.

    I am very sorry to hear of Dick’s passing. He drove truck for my brother in the 70’s. A very kind and soft hearted person. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
