Robert MahoneyRobert “Bob” M. Mahoney, age 68 of Redwood Falls, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 at his home after an extended illness while surrounded by his family.  Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.  Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Redwood Area Hospice, or a local veterans’ outreach program of the donor’s choice.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert “Bob” M. Mahoney was born September 29, 1948 in Watseka, Iroquois County, Illinois to John “Jack” and Betty (Wilken) Mahoney.  He was baptized at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.  Bob graduated from Redwood Falls High School, and in 1969 he enlisted in the US Army.  He served his country in Vietnam with the 131st Engineer Battalion where he was a heavy equipment operator.  Bob received his honorable discharge in 1970.  After returning to the states, he was stationed in Alabama where he met his wife, Linda Allen.  They were married September 3, 1971 in Alabama.  Together the couple moved to Milford, Illinois where Bob worked for Crow’s Hybrid Seed Corn.  In 1975, Bob and Linda moved back to Alabama and Bob drove truck over-the-road.  He continued his education at MacArthur Tech in Opp, Alabama and worked evenings at Dorsey Trailers as an industrial painter.  In 1979, the couple moved to Minnesota and Bob worked at Zytec until he retired in 1995.  Bob served his country for a second term with the National Guard after moving back to Redwood Falls.  This past spring, Bob was contacted by a fellow service member and had the honor of being published in a book as the best driver the man ever had.  Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion in Redwood Falls, serving as Commander and several other positions of the VFW for many years.  He belonged to the Voice of Democracy and was the 3rd District Officer.  He loved his horses, being outdoors, and driving around the countryside.  He loved taking pictures of animals and other wildlife.  Bob dabbled in a little of everything from crafts, painting, and reading, to cowboy action shooting.

Robert is survived by his wife Linda of Redwood Falls; daughters Robbin Mahoney (friend Jeff Freitag) of Danube, and Bobby Mahoney (friend Jordan Senkyr) of Redwood Falls; son-in-law Dominique Berg of St. James; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters Brenda (Darrel) Danielson of Lowry, and Debra (David) Sullivan of Kasson; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Wendy, and 2 grandchildren.
