Shirley Mae Radel, the daughter of Adolph and Alma (Ellingson) Lawrenz, was born March 23, 1929 at home in Johnsonville Township, Minnesota. Shirley graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1947. She married Warren Radel on December 16, 1947 and raised her eight children on the family farm. Shirley’s life was all about family. She was a hall-of-fame wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to dance, travel, and she cherished family gatherings. For most of her life she nurtured and cared for her children. In her later life, her children cared for her – just what every mother hopes for. After raising her family, she went to work as a trained medical assistant at the Wabasso Nursing Home to help care for others, a job she loved and excelled at. In her later years, Shirley lived at Garnette Gardens and Seasons where she was happy, comfortable, and well cared for.

Shirley is survived by her eight children: David (Roseann) Radel, Dwayne (Jane) Radel, Jody (Diane) Radel, Ginger (Tom) Baune, Sherri (John) Schueller, Tami (Clete) Guetter, Chad (Melissa) Radel, and Wendy (Stan) Rohlik; 25 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and siblings: Ardyce (Jerry) Strand, Dean (Jan) Lawrenz, Charlene (Luke) Satter, and Ardyn (Marcy) Lawrenz. To the family of Shirley, I’d like to share my sympathy with all. I have memories of living in Wabasso many years ago, having Chad stay with me after Kindergarden with Rick, going to Twins games at the old Metrodome, having your Dad as a member of the Old Wabasso Creamery that Fred managed. Later years, we would see Shirley dancing.
