John Conrad Steen age 72 of Minneapolis, formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away Sunday, March 6 at Benedictine Health Center in Minneapolis.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove with family visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment is in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery.   Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

John Conrad Steen was born September 19, 1938 at the family farm in Ann Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to Conrad and Hilda (Eng) Steen.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  John graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1956 and Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis in 1960, where he became a mechanical draftsman.  John served in the Army from November, 1961 to September, 1963.  He was stationed in Thailand prior to his discharge.  John worked at 3M in St. Paul where he was involved in many designs, including those of several Post-It note dispensers and tape dispensers.  John was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing and hunting, especial with his brother Carlton.  He followed all sports closely and waited for the start of Twins baseball, Minnesota Gophers, and Minnesota Vikings football seasons.

John is survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Steen of Germantown, TN; niece Jennifer (Wayne) VanDeveer of Memphis, TN; nephews James Steen of Germantown, TN, and Craig (Clementine) Steen of Salem, OR; great niece Zoe and great nephew Augie VanDeveer of Memphis, TN; and cousin Mary Tyler of Rosemount, MN.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Carlton.
