Wayne BarberWayne David Barber age 91 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Vesta, passed away peacefully Monday, August 18, 2014, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 22, at the Redwood Alliance Church.  Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Interment is in the Echo Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wayne David Barber was born October 25, 1922 in Underwood Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Peter and Hilda (Backer) Barber.  He was baptized on November 5, 1922.  Wayne attended country school in Underwood Township through the 8th grade and graduated from Echo High school in 1940.  Wayne began farming after high school.  He met Myrle Jeanette Templeton of Minneapolis at a rollerskating party through Christian Endeavor.  On February 24, 1951, they were married at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis.  Following their marriage, they made their home on Wayne’s family farm where they raised seven children.  Wayne was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was a devoted husband and father.  He served his community on the Underwood Township and Vesta elevator boards for many years.  Wayne was a member of the Swan Lake Church near Cottonwood where he served on the church board.  He liked to challenge his children to a game of pool at home and loved to play cribbage, which he continued to play in the nursing home with a group of friends.  Wayne was an avid reader who also enjoyed crossword puzzles, card and word games, and following Minnesota sports teams.  Farming was his true hobby.  In 1990, Wayne and Myrle retired to Redwood Falls.  Myrle passed away on February 21, 1996.  On December 10, 1997 Wayne married Dorothy Giffen at Alliance Church in Staples and continued to reside in Redwood Falls.Wayne will be greatly missed by his wife Dorothy; children: Jim of Minneapolis, Kay (Wayne) Knudsen of New London, Wynne (Don) Fischer of Dittmer, MO, Joe of Vesta, Anne (Jeff) Lemcke of Redwood Falls, and Ruth (Ron) Timm of Lindstrom; grandchildren: Wade (Robin) Barber, Jared Barber, Maureen (Bryan) Langdoc, Stefanie (Kerbie) Slegers, Kyle Knudsen, Sam (Maddie) Knudsen, Nicole Fischer, Kristi Fischer, Hannah Bredlau, Rachel Bredlau, Sophie Timm, and Jackson Timm; and 9 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by step-children: Bette (Dan) Twamley of St. Vincent, Duane (Pam) Giffen of Ft. Worth, TX, Deloros (Rock) Bakken of Hallock, Clara (Floyd) Franklin, Cheryl (Mike) Heddan, Tom (Barb) Twamley, Cindy (Jerry) Ritteman, and Rick (Janie) Clow; 12 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; brother Lloyd (Lorraine) Barber of Elgin, IL; two nephews and one niece.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrle, son John, nephew Don, brother Jim, and two step-grandchildren.
