Allen TateAllan Jay Tate age 77 of Walnut Grove passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center while surrounded by his family.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.  Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.  Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Allan Jay Tate was born April 28, 1937 in Walnut Grove, Minnesota to John and Mary (Anderson) Tate.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Allan attended Walnut Grove High School.  On February 15, 1960 he married Helen Cole in Coolville, OH.  Allan owned and operated Tate Trucking for many years and logged many, many miles.  He sold the business in 1992.  He went on to drive truck for various companies.  Allan loved living in Walnut Grove; whenever he was away, he was anxious to return home.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.  Allan enjoyed fishing, gardening, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Allan is survived by his wife Helen; daughters June (Scott) Hoffman and Lisa (David) Hoffman, all of Walnut Grove; grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) VanOverbeke, Kristie Hoffman, Abby Hoffman, and Josh Hoffman; brother Kenny (Audrey) Tate of Mankato; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, son Mark, and brother Lyle.
