  1. Allen was a wonderful coworker and friend. He will be missed by all of us here at the cottages. He was known her for the food he made and his outstanding humor.

  2. My thoughts are with Allen’s family and friends. I’ve known Al for 28 years and never saw a frown or hint of negativity in all those years. Your life’s career choice showed your true heart and nature; caring for others and being positive and encouraging was what you knew well and shared with all that were around you. Private man with a true and clean heart. I will miss your smile, as will everyone who was blessed to know you my friend.

  3. I worked with Allen many years ago and yet will always remember his compassion, his true dedication to his patients and their families and his humor. Allen’s laugh was a booming sound that I will always remember when I think of him. He will be missed. I know that his legacy of kindness will live on in the many lives he touched.

  4. Allen you will be truly missed. The past 20 years most all of my stories in my life some how were either told to you, or included you in some way. Allen touched so many via his words, his smile or his charm. Rest in peace old friend until we meet again.. and trust me I will have lots to fill you in on!!

  7. Al was one of the best people I ever knew. He always had a way with words to bring calm and ease to any situation. That would always be followed up with a few laughs. I had that good fortune of knowing him personally and also had the opportunity to spend time with him while he was working. His kindness in spirit showed in his work and in his life at all times. He will be truly missed.

  8. Allen was a great coworker and dependable caregiver at the cottages. Staff and patients loved his care. He was a good cook for the cottage residents.

  9. Yes, Al was a private man… But what he chose to share with the world was priceless. He was kind, gracious and generous he took care of business, those he loved and countless others. Through words of wisdom (being great timely advice) or jokes to those that needed them and care for the hundreds of patients and their families through the years. Al loved and was loved. Al we miss you already.

  10. Oh Al, how I will miss you. Your smile, sense of humor, the great conversations, and always ready with a kind word and a hug.
I met Mama Al nearly 23 years ago, and I feel fortunate to have enjoyed his friendship all of these years. He was truly a compassionate soul, and a wonderful person.
You are always loved, and already missed so much.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to Al’s partner, family, and all that knew him. The world is certainly a darker without his light.

  11. Condolences from an old friend of Allen’s. I am sorry to hear of his passing. I really enjoyed the time we spent together at the mall in Worthington. Our daily talks were quite often the bright spot of my day. We fell out of contact when he moved to S.Falls and I too, moved elsewhere. I’m sure that Jesus is enjoying his light hearted laughter and true concern for his fellow man. May your grief be short and your memories pleasant.
    Sincerely,
    Vern Bass

  12. Allen, you’ve been gone over 2 years now and I still miss running in to you and sharing some special moments of humor and lightheartedness in a world gone crazy and way too serious.
I remember once, over 20 years ago, I stopped and asked you this: “What is the best piece of advice you can give to anyone in this life?”
You immediately replied: “The event will happen no matter what; its how you react to the event that makes all the difference.” I’ve used that advice repeatedly throughout my life and thank you for it.
    I miss you. Alot.

  13. m’ma-Al …
i love you… you were the very first person i ever met that already knew all the answers to my questions… To this very moment- i have never had a longer, nicotine-fueled, caffeine-sustained, or sleep-deprived conversation with any other man.
thank you for trying so hard to get to know me…in your own unique wisdom…and ‘hag-drag’ way… the most beautiful smile.
and by far the raunchiest sense of humor in bookstore history.
hope i haven’t embarrassed you too much by what i just said.

    bye, m’ma
