Margie Fern Bakken age 87 of Walnut Grove passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Walnut Grove. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.  Interment is in the church cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 


 

Margie was born September 13, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN to Andrew and Julia (Olson) Nackerud.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  Margie graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1941, and attended Miss Woods Academy for teaching.  She then taught school in Mapleton for several years.  On November 23, 1946, Margie was united in marriage to Harry Bakken at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  Together the couple lived on the family farm until 1977 when they moved into Walnut Grove.  Harry passed away March 2, 2001.  Margie was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies aid and circle.  She was also a member of the Thimble Club and the Birthday Club.  Margie enjoyed painting ceramics making quilts and clothes for her granddaughters and sewing various items.  She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking.

 

Margie Fern Bakken is survived by her children: Nancy (David) Herder of Walnut Grove, Kay (Mark) Koblegard, and Al (Linda) Bakken of Belgrade, MT; grandchildren: Tami (Paul) Vesey, Teri (Jim) Herder-Blahnik, Tanya (Travis) Herder-Davis, Angi (Dale) Taylor and Amy Koblegard; great grandchildren: Ryan, Meghan, Tori & Lucas Vesey, Matther Webber, Marshal & Mason Garbe, Andrew Blahnik, Jarett Herder, Jerome Davis, Logan & Samantha Hotzler and Jonathan Taylor; brother Rodney (Ann) Nackerud; sisters in law: Marjorie Bakken and Eleanor Bakken; and many other relatives and friends.  Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Harry, grandson Derek Bakken and brothers: Leif, Franz, Alf, Harry and Rolf Nackerud.
