Barbara “Barb” Ann (Nass) Prescher was born April 13, 1957 to Francis and Beverly Nass.  She grew up in Le Sueur, Minnesota.  Barb was the oldest of seven children.  She enjoyed farm life and grew up in a close and loving family.  Barb attended St. Anne’s Catholic School through the sixth grade and then went to Le Sueur High School.  She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1975.  Barb continued her education at Mankato State University seeking a degree in accounting and graduated in 1978 with Summa Cum Laude honors.  It was while attending Mankato State that she met Greg Prescher who was also working toward an accounting degree.  They started going out in 1976 and were married May 11, 1979.  Upon graduation Barb and Greg moved to the Twin Cities and began their accounting careers.  Barb spent her first seven years working for Peat Marwick and Mitchell.  She then spent nine years at General Mills and three years at Brady and Company before starting her own company, Virtual CFO, in 1998.  She continued to run Virtual CFO until April 2016.  Many of her clients were with her the entire time and became good friends as well.  In 1992 they moved to Plymouth where they spent the next 24 years.  While in Plymouth they joined Trinity Lutheran Church of Long Lake.  Barb went on numerous women’s retreats, attended Bible studies, and also sang in the choir.  She cherishes all the friendships she has with the people of Trinity.

Barb loved being at home.  She enjoyed cooking, doing arts and crafts, going for walks, and reading.  She started quilting in 1992 and through the years made numerous bed quilts, throws, totes, and decorative items.  Her last quilt was to be a queen size covering for their bed.  While Barb was in Hospice two wonderful women of Redwood Falls took on the task of finishing the quilt and she was able to see and use her final quilt.  Barb loved animals.  She enjoyed watching the birds coming to the feeders she put out and bathing in the bird bath.  She especially liked hummingbirds.  Over the years Barb and Greg had three pets.  First a Tibetan Terrier, Katie, then a Beagle, Velvet, and their last pet, a cat, CoCo, who will continue to keep Greg company.  Barb also loved to travel.  They went on many trips, sometimes just the two of them but also trips with her mom and dad, brothers and sisters, and Greg’s family as well.  They enjoyed visiting and hiking in many national parks.  Motorcycling was another pastime of theirs.  For the first years she was always a passenger but that started to get old for her so in 2015 Barb got her own motorcycle license.  Barb loved the rides they went on with her sisters, Mary Jo and Laurie, and their spouses, Mike and Craig; the most memorable trip being the ride around Lake Superior in July of 2015.  Barb was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2009.  She became her own advocate in fighting the cancer, researching, and seeking out the best possible treatments.  She maintained a positive attitude and enjoyed life to its fullest during her seven and a half year battle with the disease.  In July 2016 Barb and Greg fulfilled a dream of theirs, returning to their rural roots when they retired to Redwood Falls, where Greg’s twin sister, Gale, and her family live.

Barb is survived by her husband Greg of 38 years; parents Francis and Bev Nass of Le Sueur; siblings: Mike (Pam) Nass of Eagan, Mary Jo (Mike) O’Malley of Belle Plaine, Peter (Kathy) Nass of Faribault, Susan (Tom) Caruso of Rocky Hill, CT, Kathy Fournier of Crystal, and Laurie (Craig) Kleschult of St. Michael; brothers-in-law Richard (Elizabeth) Prescher of Morristown and Douglas (Bonnie White) Prescher of Waseca; sister-in-law Gale (Thomas) Morley of Redwood Falls; and 34 nieces and nephews.

I was SO very sorry to hear of Barb’s passing. She was an inspiration to me for many years as she worked with us at Stark Electronics. She fought a long, hard, battle with this disease. It was truly an honor to have worked with her.
All through her battle with cancer she was so strong, full of life, and so wanted to do whatever it took to overcome this awful disease. I can say I admire her more than I could ever put into words. Her enthusiasm for life, her love of people, her caring of each cause she supported. She was a remarkable person that will be deeply missed.
Please know that many prayers, much love and sympathy are going your way at this time of loss.
I will truly miss her smile and kind words each and every day.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

  4. (((cyber hugs))) for the whole family. It has been along time since we have seen each other and it saddens me that this is so. May you find peace in your hearts with the knowing that you will once again meet up in Heaven to continue the journey together.

  5. Greg, we at Trinity are holding you and your family so very close to our hearts in prayer. Know you have your Trinity family to walk with you through this dark valley. Barb was such a remarkable person to us all. She will be missed, but we will all rejoice at our Heavenly Homecoming!

  6. Dear Prescher family. I am very sorry to have read of the recent death of Barb. Please accept my sincere condolences. I would like to share something that I have personally found to be very comforting. It is found in the Bible at John 5:28,29 and also at Revelation 21:3-5. These verses tell us that soon God is going to bring about a resurrection of our dear loved ones, as well as do away with all of the many causes we have for suffering, including sickness, pain & death. Knowing this has always comforted me and it is my hope that these thoughts will likewise comfort your family also during this most difficult time in your lives.
