Elda Johanna Alice (Loock) Wandersee, daughter of Clarence and Adeline (Kraemer) Loock, was born May 23, 1927 in Sheridan Township. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 19, 1927, confirmed that faith on April 6, 1941, and began her education in District 46, completing the 8th grade. She was a farm girl who married Lloyd Wandersee on June 3, 1945 on Stewart’s farm. They continued farming until they moved to North Redwood in 1955 where they raised four children: Linda, Lois, Randy, and Cindy, not to mention chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, and several faithful dogs. Elda was a true homemaker. Before getting married, she milked cows, walked to school, and helped on the family farm. Later she enjoyed baking, canning vegetables that she and Lloyd grew in their huge garden, and could butcher a chicken faster than anyone. We all miss the sauerkraut. In later years, she and Lloyd made quilts for their children and grandchildren. All of the children remember the car rides we enjoyed together, usually on a Sunday, and she and Lloyd kept that up for many years, not to mention the yearly camping trips we took together. She also passed along the love of reading, cooking, and music to her entire family. She tried working out of the home once and decided quickly that she had greater joy staying at home spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Through her babysitting she also helped raise numerous other children who became like family.

Elda is survived by her children: Linda (Hilding) Knutson, Lois Millerbernd, Randy (Wanda) Wandersee, all of Redwood Falls, and Cindy (partner Mike) Wandersee from Florida; 12 grandchildren: Shawn Hoppke, Chad Hoppke, Jamie (Tammi Jo) Hoppke, Chris (Melissa) Hoppke, Tess (Paul) Prior, Traci Millerbernd, Jodi Millerbernd, Stephanie Wandersee, Emily Wandersee, Lori Henry, Linda (Steve) Epperson, and Lisa (Karmen) Kremin. She was blessed with 18 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She loved her children but her grand, great, and great-great grandchildren stole her heart and always put a smile on her face. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd in 2001, brothers Harlan and Orville, brothers-in-law Harvey and Gordon, sister-in-law Delva, parents, and in-laws. The family would like to thank the staff of Sunwood Care Center and Hospice for their gentle care they gave to our mother and grandmother. She will now be laid to rest beside her husband whom she has greatly missed for 14 years. God bless you, Mom, may peace be with you.

So many memories come flooding back when I think of Aunt Elda. Of course most of those memories are a compilation of Aunt Elda and Uncle Lloyd together. What wonderful testament of love them two were. Elda and her ever present cheery smile and gentle demeanor, always so welcoming even when our brood of 7 come strolling through the door. Her crock pot macaroni and cheese, yummy. And her apple crisp OMG!!! (which she would not give up that recipe to me, Wanda, Linda do you have it?). She was always ready with a kind word a teaching moment and a warm hug. Linda, Hilding, Lois, Cindy, Mike, Randy, Wanda and the rest of the extended family I offer my condolences. To a life well lived, RIP Aunt Elda.
