Ellen Hansen Ellen Frances Hansen, age 94 of Edgerton, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Tyler Area Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Ellen Frances (Nielsen) Hansen was born September 8, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa to Hans and Elsie (Campbell) Nielsen. She graduated from Akron High School. When she was 20, the family moved to the Ruthton area. On October 3, 1942 Ellen married Axel Harald Hansen Sr. at Hope Lutheran Church in Ruthton. Together, the couple lived and farmed near Tyler. Later they purchased a farm west of Ruthton. In 1957 they moved into town. Axel passed away in 1991. Ellen was very active with the Ladies Aid at church, and the Tyler Hospital and nursing home auxiliaries. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, plastic canvas, and cross stitch. Ellen also enjoyed old time music and dancing. She especially loved her family, and spending time with them.

Ellen is survived by her children: Mary (Dennis) Erickson of Sioux Falls, SD, Axel (Judy) Hansen Jr. of Ruthton, and Norma Jean (Jeff) Stewart of Luverne; grandchildren: William and Paul (Laurie) Erickson, Jeff (Kari) Hansen, Zachary (Kristan) and Marissa Stewart (fiancé Thomas “TJ” Robbins); great-grandchildren: Cooper, Carter, and Camden Hansen, Avery Erickson, Ella and Ryan Stewart; sisters Dorothy Mueffels of Waconia and Waneta Shriver of Marshall; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Axel Sr., granddaughter Cheryl Erickson, and two brothers.
