Sylvester Fischer

Sylvester B. Fischer, 82, of Slayton, formerly of Lake Wilson, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Our House of Murray County in Slayton after a long illness. 

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.


 

Sylvester B. Fischer was born June 12, 1929 near Iona, Minnesota to Alphonse and Minnie (Olsen) Fischer.  He was baptized, confirmed, and attended Catholic School in Iona.  Sylvester met Doris Lebahn in South Dakota, and on August 5, 1950 the couple was married in Pipestone.  Together the couple settled in Lake Wilson.  Sylvester was a very active member of the community serving on the fire department for 25 years, including serving as fire chief.  He worked as a car salesman and Standard Oil agent for 26 years.  Sylvester was a councilman for 12 years and also mayor of Lake Wilson.  He operated a snowmobile business for 7 years and was in the Community Club for 26 years, including 8 as director.  Sylvester enjoyed cars, and driving around enjoying the countryside.  He also enjoyed fishing and golfing, 

 

Sylvester is survived by his wife Doris of 61 years; son Donald (Teri) of Slayton; daughter Darlene Fischer of Avoca; grandson Andrew Fischer of the Twin Cities; and great grandchildren Angelina and Collin.  He is also survived by his siblings: Dorothy (Robert) Knuth, Edward (Cathy) Fischer, Shirley (Carl) Culp, Art (Ingrid) Fischer, John (Karen) Fischer, Marlene Fischer, Arnold (Judy) Fischer, Diana (Brian) Kirk, David (Jan) Fischer, Tom Fischer, Rita (Ron) Douglas, Paul Fischer, and Theresa (Dave) Lueck; brother-in-law Jeff Brooks; and many other relatives and friends.   He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Randall Fischer, sister Cecilia Brooks, and grandson Patrick Helmke-Fischer.
