Shawn Michael Gewerth

Shawn Michael “Hank” Gewerth age 24 of rural Morton passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010 as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Nicollet, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday AT THE CHURCH and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.  Interment is in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.  The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Shawn Gewerth was born April 20, 1985 in Redwood Falls, MN to Dick and Cheryl (Swoboda) Gewerth.  He was baptized at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan, and received his first communion and was confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton.  Shawn attended grade school in Morton, and graduated from Redwood Valley High School in 2003.  He attended Minnesota West in Granite Falls studying fluid power for a year before transferring to Alexandria Technical College where he studied small engines.  Shawn graduated from Alexandria Tech in 2007.  After his schooling, Shawn returned to the Morton area where he raised cattle and farmed.  Shawn was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed all sports, and was involved in curling and kickball leagues and played church league softball.  Shawn loved life and spending time with his friends and family, especially his younger cousins.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling and motocross.

Shawn is survived by his parents Dick and Cheryl Gewerth of rural Morton; sister Carrie Tostenrud and husband Rob of Redwood Falls; brothers Russell Gewerth of Olivia and Travis Gewerth at home; grandparents: Lewis and Caren Swoboda of rural Redwood Falls and Helen Gewerth of Redwood Falls; great grandma Evelyn Stephens of Olivia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his grandpa Joseph Gewerth Sr., and great grandparents: Joseph E. & Lillian Swoboda and Art Stephens.
