Ruth Jeannette (Tellefsen) Harbo died peacefully at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 16, 2011 after a joyful, full 97 years of life. 

Funeral services/celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. 

Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery in Johnsonville Township. The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Ruth Harbo was born to Bert and Hilda (Hendrickson) Tellefsen July 4, 1913 on the family farm in Johnsonville Township, Minnesota. She was baptized August 3, 1913 and confirmed on July 31, 1927 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove where she has been a lifetime member. She attended Pleasant View rural school and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1932. After attending Lamberton Normal teacher-training, Ruth taught in a rural Minnesota one room school house before her marriage to Russell Harbo on August 23, 1935. In the mid 1950’s she began attending Mankato State College earning her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. In 1956 they moved to Westbrook where Ruth taught fourth and later first grade until her retirement in 1978. After Russell’s death in June 1988, Ruth returned to Walnut Grove.

Ruth is survived by her children: Sonya (Duane) Talus, Nancy (Byron) Anderson, and John (Carol) Harbo; grandchildren: Kathy (Doug) Keyzer, Douglas (Carol) Talus, Steven (Jane) Talus, Leslie Anderson, Gretchen (Robert) Strandell, Heather (Anthony) Vermeulen, Carla (Kendall) Landry and Emily Harbo; great grandchildren: Kyle, Matthew and Jason Keyzer; Bryan and Eric Talus; Cole Talus; Nicholas, Alexander and Sarah Strandell; and Hannah Landry;  brother Donald (Betty) Tellefsen; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.  Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Russell, infant brother Robert, sisters Florence Egge and Darlene Fisher, and brother Burton Tellefsen.  Blessed be her memory. She will be missed by many.
