Helen-DahlHelen Mae Dahl age 89 of Cottonwood passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Granite Falls Hospital.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood.  Visitation is 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday.  Burial is in the church cemetery.  Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Cemetery Memorial Fund.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Helen was born May 29, 1924 in Cottonwood, Minnesota to John and Ella (Grant) Rewerts.  She was baptized by Rev. L. F. Badger at 1st Presbyterian Church in Cottonwood on June 14, 1924.  Helen was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. H. J. Madland at Silo Lutheran Church in Cottonwood on April 14, 1946.  She graduated from Cottonwood High School on her birthday, May 29, 1942.  Helen began work on June 1, 1942 for North Star Mutual Insurance.  She enjoyed working there for over 30 years, retiring on her 65th birthday in 1989.  On March 10, 1945 she married Curtis Bly Dahl at Christ Lutheran Church.  They were blessed with four children.  Cottonwood was her home all her life.  Helen enjoyed playing Bridge and cards.  She was active in Christ Lutheran Church choir for many years, taught Sunday School and Bethel Series, served as President and Vice President of WELCA, and as church secretary.  Helen also was a Country Club volunteer, Commissioner for the Housing & Redevelopment Authority in Cottonwood.  She served as coordinator for Village Court for 10 years.  Helen’s pride and joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Her day began and ended with God’s word.  Hardanger needlework was her hobby and she spent many hours making beautiful pieces and sharing them with others.

Helen is survived by her children: John (Sharon) Dahl of Glenwood, Jane (Curtis) Emerson of Canal Winchester, OH, daughter-in-law Jean Dahl of Cottonwood, Joel (Kathy) Dahl of Cottonwood; 11 grandchildren: Daniel (Tesa) Dahl and Jennifer (Aaron) Minor, Benjamin (Shawna) Dahl, Luke (Kelly) Emerson, Rebekah (John) Rowan, Joshua (Lisa) Emerson, Andrew (Naomi) Dahl, Aaron (Alison) Dahl, Joel (Corinne) Dahl, Derek (Kelly) Dahl, and Christopher (Catie) Dahl; 18 great grandchildren: Tenzin, Esryn, & Canyon Dahl, Maxwell & Ella Minor, Sydney & Londyn Dahl, Dylan & Avery Emerson, Sarah & Naomi Rowan, Logan, Cole, Alexander, & Gabriella Emerson; Sophie & Tyler Dahl, and Brylee Dahl.  She is also survived by brother Marvin Rewerts of Arizona, sister-in-law Margaret Rewerts of Cottonwood, and many other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Curtis, son Jeffrey, sisters Mabel and Mildred, and brothers Jim and John.

  2. I would like to give you my condolences on behalf of your mother Helen, I feel like I know her through one of her son’s. I am truly sorry for your loss, I lost my father this last year in April and it still is difficult some days as I know, with time will ease the pain of your loved one. I send prayers and thoughts with you.
