Kim BakkenKim Brian Bakken age 61 of Walnut Grove died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, following a two year battle with cancer.  Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Walnut Grove.  Visitation is 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.  Burial is in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery.

 Kim Brian Bakken was born April 3, 1955 to Lenor and Muriel (Johnson) Bakken in Tracy.  He attended Walnut Grove Public School and graduated in 1973.  He attended Jackson Vo Tech and then began farming. He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing, hunting and golf with his many friends.  He was a Lions member and a lifetime member of St. Olaf Church.

He is survived by sister, Sandra Olson, of Elysian, MN, brother Lee (Phyllis) of Westbrook, MN and many nieces and nephews.  Kim was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gary Olson.

    I’m sorry to hear about Kim. However I have many fond memories that give me laughs when I recall growing up with Kim as our neighbor.

    I spent a lot time with Kim at his farm when growing up. Lots of exploring around his farm. And of Running away from his dog Fido was always fun. Kim convinced me to play 4H softball.
    We were always well behaved! And of course all the fun at St Olaf. Kim had the honor of being the only person to be bit by Spot during a rousing back yard football game. Lots of stories to share……
