Lucille TimmLucille Alice Timm, age 88 of Fairfax, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at Southview Living Center in Gibbon.  Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Fairfax.  Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 p.m. Friday at the church.  Interment will be in the Fort Ridgely Cemetery at a later date.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lucille Alice (Runge) Timm was born February 26, 1929 to Lorin and Esther (Montgomery) Runge in St. James, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. James.  She attended country school and graduated from St. James High School in 1946.  In 1948 Lucy graduated from Mankato State University with her Teaching Degree.  On May 14th 1950 (Mother’s Day Sunday) Lucille was united in marriage to Donald Timm at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax, MN.  Don and Lucy owned and operated Timm’s Grocery for many years.  She received her Master’s Degree from Mankato State University in Teaching in 1968 and dedicated her teaching career to the Fairfax School District. She went on to get her Masters in Special Education and later in Grant Writing.  Her education helped her role as a member of the Community Education Board for such projects as the Prairie Fire Theater.  Lucy was an avid supporter of her husband Donald in his love for collecting and restoring old cars.  Lucy enjoyed teaching, bowling, visiting, playing games with the grandchildren and gardening – all with a cup of coffee.  Lucy was a survivor, a leader and a great storyteller of history which were always told from the heart.  Being born the year after the big crash, Lucy saw much change and loved to share a story.  Living through the depression era, childhood illnesses, tornadoes, fires and war times her faith never wavered.  Lucy loved spending time with her family, especially playing games with her grandchildren.  The coffee pot was always on.  Over her lifetime Lucy participated in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Groups, Civic League, Lioness, Fairfax Depot Assn., St. James Alumni Assn., MSU Alumni Assn., Friends of Ft. Ridgely, and various other civic minded groups.  She was very humble and very honored to have received the Fairfax C & C Person of the year award and also KEYC Good People Award.  Lucy was a lifelong learner and teacher, teaching up to her last breath.

Lucille is survived by her daughters: Kathleen (Tony) Hengel of Bloomington and Kristine (Jeff) Guggisberg of Gibbon; grandchildren: David Hengel (fiancée Stephanie Weber), Daniel (Janel) Hengel, Justin Grams (Penny Mauer), Kirissa Grams, and Mitch Grams; great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Samantha, Benjamin & Henry Hengel, and Soren Grams; sister-in-law Carolyn (Gilbert) Borth of Fairfax; and many other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, son Allan “Tranny” Timm.

  1. Dear family of Lucille, you have my sympathy for your loss. Your mother was a beautiful intellegent and caring lady. May God give you peace. Sincerely, Jo

  2. So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.

Lucy you lived your life with purpose and meaning. Thank you for allowing me to learn from you all these years. We didn’t spend as much time together as I would of liked because I moved away, grew up, joined the military and life got busy for me but we managed to remain friends all these years. Thank you!

Our family has warm memories of Lucy and Don due to their friendy grocery store and later as the neighbors to my parents when they retired to town. My mom won $300. at an exciting Friday night drawing at the grocery store when I was a little girl. Lucy was a kind hearted, interesting and wonderful lady. With sympathy to the family.

  4. I don’t know how you all are feeling right now, but I have been where you now are. I hold you dearly in my heart and prayers.

We are sending you our sympathy for your loss of dear Lucy. Our children were taught by Lucy at the Fairfax school. We enjoyed her in church doings and I bowled with her for many years. We were unable to make it to her funeral but we want to let you know we cared. God Bless.

  6. Kathleen and Tony, my deepest condolences to you and your family. You are all in my prayers.
