Mary MunsonMary S. Munson, age 54 of Tracy, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls after a courageous battle with cancer.  Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, November 29 at Victory Christian Church in Balaton.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, November 28 with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at the Tracy Area Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.  Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.

Mary S. Munson was born on June 30, 1962 in Tracy, Minnesota to Albert ‘Al’ and Susan (Smith) Zender. She attended elementary school at St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Tracy High School in 1980.  She then attended Willmar Area Vocational School and became a licensed cosmetologist.  In 1983 she was wed to Matt Macken. To this union, two daughters, Catie and Sara, were born.  On October 16, 1993 she was united in marriage to Jim Munson.  On October 1, 1996, Mary entered into a partnership at the Morgan Street Salon in Tracy, which she operated for a number of years.  She then went on to manage the clubhouse at the Tracy Country Club for a few years.  Most recently she was an employee of Applebee’s in Marshall.  Mary spent her summers on many area golf courses enjoying the game with her husband, family, and friends. She achieved many championship golf titles and tournament wins.  She enjoyed knitting, annual trips to Las Vegas and area casinos. Mary also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her “little peanuts” Ava, 7 ½ and  Amiyah, 5.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jim, of 23 years; daughters Catie of Boston, MA, and Sara of Marshall; beloved granddaughters Ava and Amiyah of Marshall; step children Mandy, Ashley, Justin, and Brandy; mother, Susan Zender of New Prague; mother-in-law Donna Munson of Walnut Grove; brothers John (Julie) of Apple Valley and Mike (Pam) of Inver Grove Heights; sister Margaret (Neil) Butchart of San  Antonio, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Preceding Mary in death are her father, Albert ‘Al’ Zender; father-in-law, Virgil ‘Hap’ Munson; maternal and paternal grandparents.
