Leroy Melvin Nielsen

 

Leroy Melvin Nielsen age 82 of Tyler passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home.  A private family service will be held. Stephens Funeral Service – Tyler Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Leroy Melvin Nielsen was born December 12, 1928 in Tyler, MN to Eijnert & Edel (Olegaard) Nielsen.  He was baptized and confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church.  He attended country school district 2 west of Tyler.  After his schooling, Leroy farmed with his dad.  On October 22, 1952, Leroy entered the US Army.  He served as an Infantryman during the Korean Conflict.  Leroy received his honorable discharge October 21, 1954.  Following his service, Leroy returned to the Tyler area to farm.  In the spring of 1955, Leroy was united in marriage to Liesbeth Neumann in Lake Benton.  He continued farming until his retirement in 1996. Leroy remained living on the farm until September 2010 when he moved to Danebod Village in Tyler.  Leroy was a member of the Tyler VFW, and Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton.  He enjoyed traveling, deer hunting, and watching the Twins, Vikings, Bonanza and Westerns on TV. He also enjoyed driving his brand new red pickup. And he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

 

Leroy is survived by his children: Ken (Deb) Nielsen of Marshall, Pat (Ralph) Moorman of Albany, MN, Julie (Chuck) Donaldson of Andover, MN, Bruce (Roxanne) Nielsen of Russell, and Shiela Nielsen of Superior, WI; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings: Agneta Rasmussen of Lake Benton, Vivian Nelson of Lake Benton, David (Agnes) Nielsen of Tyler, Marjorie Meinders of Edmond, OK, and Dale (Jean) Nielsen of Tyler; and many other relatives and friends.  Preceding him in death are his parents and ex-wife Liz.
