Catherine Louise (Erickson) Tyman, age 80 of Tracy, peacefully passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 surrounded by loving family. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6 at the town hall in Cathie’s cherished home town of Holyoke, Minnesota. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cathie Tyman was born July 18, 1942 to Milton & Eva Erickson of Holyoke, MN. She graduated from Wrenshall High School and attended Duluth Business College. She grew up with fun family picnics in Holyoke Park and shared a special bond with her cousin Karen Grover. She was joined in marriage to Timothy Tyman on October 22, 1966 on a beautiful sunny day (in Duluth of all places). They welcomed four children into the world together. Tim and Cathie enjoyed many travels in their business ventures and made many friends along the way. Cathie was lovingly referred to as “Flannel” by her husband. Throughout her life, Cathie enjoyed gardening, quilting, and taking walks. She loved making her house a home in every place her family settled. She was a devoted mother and welcomed her children home from school every day when they were young. One of her greatest enjoyments in life was being a grandmother to ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and she loved the pursuit of finding just the right Christmas and birthday gifts for them. One of her proudest accomplishments was gathering family stories and recipes for her self-published Nelson Family Cookbook. Cathie will be remembered by her family for her taste in dry reds or her homemade mulberry wine and by her quick wit and devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her (mostly) good home-cooked meals, long-winded stories, and Minnesota goodbyes. She was talented in rosemaling, quilting and canning. Cathie was a poor cribbage partner, an avid hat collector, and an amateur genealogist who enjoyed tracing her family history.

Cathie is survived by her husband Tim Tyman; her children: Camilla Pietz, Mark (Sharon) Tyman, Damon (Jennifer) Tyman, and Jolene (Lonnie) Cochran; her grandchildren: Cassondra, Meaghan (Eric) Plath, Benjamin Pietz, Kyle Andrews, Paighton, Garret, & Ethan Tyman, McKynna (Caleb) Christian, Quentin, Dakota, & Landon Cochran; and her great grandchildren Eva Plath, Colt & Kara Christian; and her sister-in-law Evelyn Erickson. She is preceded in death by her parents Milton and Eva Erickson; her parents-in-law Raymond and Mildred Tyman; her siblings: Clifford and Coral Erickson; and her son-in-law, Brian Pietz.
