Charles “Chubby” Gary Johnson was born September 11, 1935 to Henry and Myrtle (Hanson) Johnson in Slayton, Minnesota.  He was baptized at the St. Olaf parsonage in Walnut Grove and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook.  Chubby attended Westbrook High School and graduated in 1953.  On September 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Erickson at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church.  To this union two boys were born, Mark and Kirby.  Chubby farmed with his dad and brother until 1983, and then with Mark & Kirby.  Altogether he farmed for 61 years.  Chubby enjoyed playing pool and bowling with the men’s team and couples club.  He also enjoyed a good game of pinochle with his men’s club.  He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.  As long as his health permitted, he especially loved going for early breakfast at the Shady Drive-Inn with the guys.

Chubby is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; sons, Mark of Walnut Grove and Kirby of Westbrook; sister-in-law, Rosalie Rongstad; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Harris and brother-in-law Jon Rongstad.
