Thomas Amberg

Thomas Amberg Thomas Lee Amberg, age 68 of Redwood Falls, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  A Prayer Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home.  Visitation is 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday.  Private burial will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Tom requested donations to the Amberg High Life Beer Fund (charities of the family’s choice).  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Thomas Lee Amberg was born May 2, 1950 to Henry and Nellie (Ahrens) Amberg in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  He was the youngest of six children.  Tom attended Redwood High School.  After graduating in 1968, he worked for Skelly Gas Station as a mechanic.  This is where Tom met the love of his life, Joleen Mary Weber, when she forgot her keys in the phone booth and their 50 year love story began.  They were united in marriage on June 7, 1969.  Tom and Joleen took over the family farm, where they raised four beautiful children.  Tom farmed the Amberg Homestead with his family his entire life.  He was also a semi-driver for nearly 30 years.  During his down time, which was rare, Tom enjoyed fishing and sharing a cold beer with anyone who stopped by.  The few times he let loose and took off his boots were spent with his toes in the sand in the Caribbean with “his girl” Joleen.  Above all, though, spending time with his family, holding his grandbabies and watching them grow were his greatest joys.  Tom was a man of few words but he was always helpful, honest, dependable, loving, funny and a friend to all he met.

Tom is survived by his wife Joleen; children: Jason “Buckshot” (Candace) Amberg of Eden Prairie, Krista “Kitten” (Jamie) Trebesch of Redwood Falls, Jared “Chopper”(Mindy) Amberg of Redwood Falls and Anjela “Twinx” (Toby) McVay of St. Bonifacius; grandchildren: Chance (Tara), Jason Thomas, Samantha (Tyler), Taylor, Megan, Tommy, Bryan, Tucker, Matthew and Ethan; great grandsons: Caileb, Kai and Carson; brother Henry “Butch” (Faythe) Amberg of Delhi; sisters: Marlene Stage  of Tacoma, WA, and Patricia (Harold) Read of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.  He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jodi Lynn, son-in-law Bryan Jenniges, and sisters Orien Stage and Margaret Psihos.

How much we want to be there for you and the family…”our” family, because I sure feel like a huge part of it. I have bragged about you for years, and with good reason…. I called you the soap opera, commercial, good old days family, because I have never witnessed such love, respect, and giving as you all have !! ( Good soap opera by the way ! Like the Cleaver family, or Waltons ! ) ! We ache with you the loss of Tom, he was such a huge part of everyone’s life, and an anchor to turn to. I know your faith, memories, and love will keep him alive for the rest of our lives. God is with you, and I hope He wraps you in healing comfort to know that one man, who was quiet and lived simply, touched so many lives in such a positive way with his bride by his side. Love to you all….. prayers always. We love you !!!
