Darrel Baune, age 91 of Wabasso, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at Mount Vista Hospital in Mesa, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, May 7 at the church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will be in the St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, guests will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Darrel Baune was born November 8, 1929 to Alle and Mary (Fischer) Baune in Wabasso, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Darrel attended St. Anne’s Catholic School and continued his education at Minneapolis School of Business. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, where he was wounded in Korea and received the purple heart award. On May 8, 1957, Darrel married the love of his life Margie Pelzel at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. Darrel owned Baune Insurance Agency from 1965-1991, until he retired at age 80. He also owned Wabasso camper sales from 1970-1991. Darrel was awarded trips with the camper sales and he enjoyed exploring each of the destinations with Margie. He especially loved the trips to Europe and Australia. Darrel was a member of the American Legion where he served as secretary and the Wabasso Lions where he was the charter secretary. You could often find him fixing things around the house. Darrel loved spending time with his family. Darrel is survived by his wife Margie of 63 years; sons: Robert (Brenda), Paul (Jodi) and Steven (Kerri); grandchildren: Travis, Melisa, Kaila (Al) Drake, Richard (Jenny), Daniel (Hannah), Nick (Tim), Amber (William) Liebe, Brandon (Smadar) and Ashley (Clint) Clemes; great grandchildren: Haily & Ella Liebe, Noah & Alyssa Baune, Charli & Kylie Clemes and Bennett Baune; brothers: Ray (Gloria) and John (Carolyn); and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Al & Susan Pelzel, and siblings: Irene (Roman) Anderson, Donna (James) Frank, Dorothy (Richard) Lipinski and Mark Baune. |
