Lois Miriam Mayer, age 84 of Wabasso, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Carris Health – Redwood Seasons House in Redwood Falls. Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in the Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Carris Health – Redwood Seasons House. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Lois Miriam (Lindberg) Mayer was born September 11, 1936 to Swan and Agda (Hanson) Lindberg in Oak Park, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed at Austin Messiah Lutheran Church. After graduating from high school, Lois attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, and then Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. On September 9, 1961, Lois married Ernest Marvin “Marv” Dahl at Austin Messiah Lutheran Church. To this union their son Dan was born and together they lived in Des Plaines, IL. Her husband Marv passed away in 1966. Lois took foster children into their home, and cared for over 125 children, mostly newborns, from 1964-1980. Lois worked as a church parish worker, choir director, secretary, and organist throughout her whole life. In 1988, she married Ron Mayer in Des Plaines, IL. Together they moved to Wabasso in March 2006. Lois continued to play piano and organ at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Wabasso for a time, and at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls until last year. Lois loved music, singing, sending greeting cards, playing games with friends, watching Jeopardy, and knitting. Lois is survived by her husband Ron of Wabasso; son Dan (Wendy) Dahl of Wabasso; grandchildren: Alex Dahl (Lindsey Syltie) of Bruce, SD and Rachel Dahl (Levi Arends) of Wanda; siblings: Martha Magura, Mary Gemmel and Dan Lindberg all of Illinois; and many other extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Marv. |
