Russell Horkey, age 72 of Westbrook, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center. A Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Westbrook Cemetery. A Reception of Remembrance will be held 2:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Russell’s home. Russell Edwin Horkey was born on January 1, 1949 in Windom, Minnesota to the late Elmer and Hattie (Kuehl) Horkey. He was baptized on March 2, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Russell attended Westbrook Public School until he entered the work force. He enjoyed being a farm hand, working at Butterfield Foods and later Toro of Windom. Russell enjoyed the outdoors, especially during the summer. His tan skin was a testimony to his enjoyment of fishing, mowing the yard, gardening, and just sitting out in the sun. Russell liked to pull up a lawn chair and visit, even if he didn’t have much to say. He had a contagious chuckle and was a man of few complaints. All the way to the end when you asked him how he was doing, he just humbly said “not too bad.” Russell passed away peacefully at the Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center on Tuesday morning, August 31, 2021 at the age of 72. Russell is survived by his two brothers: Myron (Nancy) Horkey of Heron Lake, Larry Horkey of Westbrook; two sisters: Lois Huerkamp of Janesville, MN, JoAnn Mead of Windom; and several nieces and nephews. Russell is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Bernice Grunewald, Violet Grunewald, and Joyce Voelker, and three brothers: Richard, Arland, and Maynard Horkey. Blessed be the memory of Russell Horkey. |
