Werner Fischer age 85 of Wabasso passed away peacefully Saturday, September 11, 2021 at River Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in Redwood Falls while surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:30 pm Tuesday AT THE CHURCH with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm and a Rosary Service to follow. Visitation will then continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment is in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. Werner was born December 13, 1935 on the family farm in Waterbury Township to Nick & Agatha (Pelzel) Fischer. He graduated from St. Anne’s Catholic School in Wabasso in 1953. On February 19, 1957, Werner was united in marriage to Monica Pistulka at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. Werner was drafted into the US Army in 1958 and served until 1960 when he was honorably discharged. Werner returned home to the Wabasso area where he farmed with his brother Nick for many years. He retired in 1990 due to his health. Werner was a lifetime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church where he was active serving on the church and school councils. He also served on the District 640 school board, and the Redwood Electric Cooperative Board. Werner was very active in the county serving on several township boards including: the Vail Township Supervisor, the Region 8 Southwest Regional Development Commission, the Region 8 Aging Board, and as District 3 Representative for Redwood County Townships on the Minnesota Association of Townships. Werner enjoyed woodworking and loved traveling and spending time with his family. A very special thank you to the compassionate and caring staff at Carris Health-Redwood Hospital, River Valley Health and Rehabilitation, Carris Health-Redwood Area Hospice and Fr. Tony Hesse. These folks provided so much kindness, care and comfort to Werner and his family. Werner is survived by his wife Monica of 64 years; children: Sherri (Rich) Oxley of Andover, Dave (Michelle) Fischer of Flower Mound TX, Ken (Sunny) Fischer of Gilbert, AZ, Nanci (Mike) Calvin of Spicer; daughter-in-law Jan Fischer of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren: Jamie (Jason) Barnes, Andrew (Sarah) Oxley, April Fischer (special friend Andy), Christian Fischer, Marley Fischer (special friend Christian), Destin Fischer, Jordan (Hayden) Trudeau, Taylor (Braxton) Breinholt, Kennedy Fischer, Samantha Calvin (special friend Brian) & Alex Calvin; great grandchildren: Levi, Julian & Peyton Barnes and Conrad, Dawson & Mabel Trudeau; sister Jane Lensing and brother Nick Fischer both of Wabasso; sister-in-law Theresa Fischer; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Jim & Ron, brothers Alfred & Leonard, sister-in-law Susie Fischer and brother-in-law Donald Lensing. |
