Margaret “Ann” Shaw, a child of God, passed away at 9:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2022 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis from complications due to a stroke. She had Bill, her sister Cathy, and brother Tom by her side. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Morton. Memorials will be directed to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children and Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis. Ann was born in Redwood Falls, Minnesota on January 21, 1953 to Robert and Zelda Gallery of Morton. She was raised in Morton and attended school there, very proud to be a Morton Indian. After graduating from Morton in 1971, she attended Ridgewater (Willmar JC) Community College for two years where she earned an Associate Degree. In June of 1973, Ann moved to Minneapolis where she applied for a job her friend had recommended to her. She got the job and her friend got a toaster. Her career at American Hardware Mutual Insurance Company spanned 38 years. She started as a computer tape librarian in a “Main Frame Computer Shop” and worked her way up to computer operator, Head Operator, and to Supervisor of Computer Operations. Ann received several personnel awards from AHM before retiring in 2011. After retirement, she was instrumental in caring for her sister Mary, who had suffered a stroke. Ann’s deep love for her family was evidenced by this. Ann and Bill moved back to Morton in July 2015 to the Gallery home on Quarry Drive. During high school, Ann had several jobs: waitress at the Highway Cafe, clerk at the Morton Drug Store, and lifeguard for four years at the Morton Swimming Pool. She also earned her Water Safety Instructor Certificate and taught swimming lessons at the Morton Swimming Pool. Ann loved athletics. She played softball and basketball for her company teams and also played softball for Bunny’s Sports Bar. She and her teammates, along with her sister Cathy, formed several all-star teams for tournament play. However, her greatest love was golf and she became very accomplished. She enjoyed it the most because it allowed her to spend time with her parents and siblings. Ann was a very kind, caring and compassionate person. She loved God and loved St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton. It broke her heart when the church was closed and torn down. Ann assisted her husband Bill with maintaining and caring for Calvary Catholic Cemetery, where several family members are buried. Ann is survived by her husband of 49 years Bill; her siblings: Catherine (Jimmy) Connell, Robert, Thomas (Tanya), and James, all of Sarasota; her nieces Shae of Lincoln, NE and Katie of Durango, Co; and nephews: Joseph of Kearney, NE and Jake of Ramsey, MN. Ann was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Zelda Gallery; her sisters Mary Gallery and Patricia Gosen; and niece Nicole Gallery. Blessed be her name. |
