Marian Joyce (Peterson) Moen was born February 12, 1927 to Clara Eldora (Leaf) and Carl Elmer Peterson in Tracy, Minnesota. Marian was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended Tracy Public Schools and graduated from Tracy High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell which was located above the former John’s Drug Store. When she received an emergency call, she would have to switch a light on top of the elevator to alert the police. On February 22, 1948, Marian was united in marriage to Milton Moen. They had two children, Paula and Dean. Marian worked alongside Milt and his parents, Zeke and Tiny Moen, operating Zeke’s Cafe on Front Street. She later worked at Penke’s Dress Shop while still assisting at the cafe. After the cafe was sold in 1969, Marian began working for Dr. Jack Von Bokern as an optometric assistant. She retired after 25 years of working for both Dr. Von Bokern and later for Dr. Steven Peterson. Marian was a member of the Tracy Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and Wheels Across the Prairie Museum. She and Milt enjoyed water skiing, camping at the lake, snowmobiling and golfing together. She loved home decorating and you always knew what season it was when you walked through her door whether at her home on Otis Court, at O’Brien Court or at Prairie View. She was also an avid bird watcher and kept a book marked with birds she spotted in her many feeders. The oranges she won playing Bingo at Prairie View went outside in hopes of attracting orioles. Marian will be lovingly remembered by her children: Paula (Richard) Hruska of Dodge City, KS and Dean (Lanie) Moen of Blaine; her grandchildren of whom she was so proud: Ben Hruska of Prescott, AZ, Katie (Andres) Castellanos of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Megan (Wayne) Davis of Marysville, KS, and Josh Moen and Maya Moen both of Blaine; her little great granddaughter who always brought a smile to her face, Lexi Mae Davis; her loving nieces, Luann (Don) Hansen, and Karen (Jerry ) Ziemke; her very special great niece, Cassie Ziemke; her nephews, Dick, Gene (Lynette) and Chuck (Elsie) Jacobsen; her great nephews and their families; wonderful long time neighbors; and the many friends she made at Prairie View. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milt, her beloved sister, Elaine Jacobsen, her brother-in-law, Harland Jacobsen and her infant grandson, Joseph Dean Moen. |
