Vance’s family moved to Rochester in time for Vance to attend the school district’s program for deaf students. His education was interrupted when the family moved to California during WWII. Upon returning to Minnesota, Vance concluded his education at Minnesota Academy for the Deaf in Faribault. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. Vance enjoyed his years at the Rochester Salvation Army Adult Daycare, especially the field trips, activities and parties. Vance loved the outdoors his entire life – camping, fishing and hunting in his younger years but his love of bird watching was a constant. Even in his final years, he was always eager to show visitors his bird list and point out the wildlife (chipmunks and squirrels) outside his window. Vance was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by cousins, friends, and his dear caretakers for the last 20+ years, Tress & Tom Maier Jr, and Jackie & Tom Maier Sr. |
