Larry Peterson, age 78 of Westbrook formerly of Albert Lea, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Sanford Westbrook Hospital. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Westbrook Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Larry Peterson was born May 22, 1945 to Herbert and Eula (McColley) Peterson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He graduated from Glenville High School in 1963. In 1968, Larry married Mary Lee Hovde at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army on February 26, 1969. Following his honorable discharge, November 28, 1970, he returned to Albert Lea and he & Mary settled on a farm outside of Dovray. They moved to Westbrook in 2007 and have resided there ever since. Larry worked at Dovray and Westbrook Coop Elevators for a number of years. He later worked at ADM and retired in 2006. He was a member of the Dovray Volunteer Fire Department, Dovray American Legion and the Westbrook VFW. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed participating in black powder rendezvous. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and coaching the softball team in Dovray. Larry was a longtime member of the 4H and loved spending time with his friends. Larry is survived by his son: Scott (Anna) Peterson of Westbrook; grandchildren: Daylan Pullis, Braelyn Heller, Carl Heller, Devyn Heller, Hailey Pregler, and Isiah Pregler; five great grandchildren; siblings: Carol (Roger) Aukes of Buffalo Center, IA and Mary (Jerry) Peterson of Clarks Grove; and many other relatives and friends.
