Kathleen “Kathy” Baune, age 91 of Wabasso, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, November 22, 2024 at River Valley Health and Rehab in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso with a livestream available on the church’s YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@LOWAFC. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, and continue until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Wabasso. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Kathleen “Kathy” (Monahan) Baune was born February 1, 1933 in Westline Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Robert and Caroline (Bolster) Monahan. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Kathy graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sleepy Eye in 1951. On August 16, 1952, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Baune at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Together, the couple farmed east of Wabasso until 1957 when they moved to the farm west of town. In 1989, they moved into Wabasso. Kathy was an active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, where she taught religion, served on the parish council and CCW. For many years, Kathy was the coordinator of the Wabasso Bloodmobile, and donated countless gallons of blood. She was also the coordinator of the Wabasso Senior Dining meal site, was a member of the Extension group, and the Wabasso Legion Auxiliary. Kathy enjoyed reading, baking, sewing, and faithfully grew a large garden and preserved its produce to nourish her family all year long. She loved visiting with her grandchildren, and watching their sports and activities.
Kathy is survived by her children: Rick (Marlene) Baune of Becker, Ron (Jane) Baune of Wabasso, Colleen (Lonny) Ruhr of Morgan, Randy Baune (Kelly Arndt) of Lamberton, Dan Baune of Wabasso, Nancy (Brad) Prahl of Redwood Falls, and Scott (Shelly) Baune of Redwood Falls. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert, great-granddaughter Ava Baune, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers.
