Marcella “Sally” J. Mathiowetz, age 84 of Wabasso, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Wabasso Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2020 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. The service will be broadcast on the Stephens Funeral Service Facebook page. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Burial is in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Lamberton. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, please wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines. A 50% indoor occupancy restriction will be maintained. Marcella “Sally” Joan Mathiowetz was born April 8, 1936 to Edwin and Elvera (Starken) Harnack in Tracy, Minnesota. She was baptized April 19, 1936 and later confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lamberton. Sally graduated from Lamberton High School and then began her nursing career at Redwood Falls Hospital for several years. On October 11, 1958, Sally married Linus Mathiowetz at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Sally stayed home to raise her family and help with the farm, west of Wabasso. She returned to nursing in the 80’s at the Wabasso Nursing Home, where she worked for 37 years until her retirement. Sally was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. She was involved in Christian Mothers and Women’s Circle at St. Anne’s. Sally enjoyed helping around the farm, she helped raise the chickens, ducks, and geese. You could often find her in the garden, tending to her flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed canning, collecting cookbooks, sewing and reading. Sally loved playing cards, doing puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sally is survived by her children: Cynthia (Jim) Zschetzsche of Comfrey, Brian (Karen) Mathiowetz of Milford, TX, Bert (Tammy) Mathiowetz of Becker, and Eric (Kari) Mathiowetz of Garvin; grandchildren: Destiny, Desirae (Josh) Patino, Anna, Sara & Noah Mathiowetz and Carson Hufsletler; great grandchildren: Charlotte, Colleen & Chloe Benoit; siblings: Cheryl (Dennis) Uphoff of Worthington, Steve Harnack of Hardy, VA, and Lois Mathiowetz of Renville; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Debby Mathiowetz, granddaughter Amy Benoit, brothers Edwin & Charles Harnack, and ex-husband Linus. |
