Vernon Ervin Guggisberg, age 87 of Redwood Falls, MN, formerly of Wanda, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025 at River Valley Health and Rehab of natural causes. Services for Vernon and Patricia Guggisberg will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church – Willow Lake Township with a visitation one hour prior at the church. Interment will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery – Willow Lake. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Vernon Ervin Guggisberg was born February 5, 1938 in Willow Lake Township to John and Fredricka (Kruse) Guggisberg. He was baptized and confirmed in 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Vernon graduated from Lamberton High School in 1956 and began working on the family farm. He joined the military and served in the Army from 1962-1964 as a Radio Operator while stationed at Giessen, Germany. Vern met Patricia Kahler at the grain elevator that he frequented while farming and where she worked. Vernon and Patricia Kahler were united in marriage on October 21, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Willow Lake. During his career he raised grain, cattle, and hogs in Wanda, as well as selling Vis-Vita Feeds and beekeeping. Vernon was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, president, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. After Vern retired in 1985, he moved to Redwood Falls. Vernon was a kindhearted soul who took care of his parents on the farm until they passed away. He enjoyed playing card games like pinochle, beekeeping, traveling to casinos with his beloved Patricia, and woodworking, where he would make clocks. Vernon’s faith was always a value he held highly and lived his life in devotion to God. Vernon is survived by his sons: Bill Wassenaar of Slayton, Mike (Angie) Wassenaar of Slayton, & Jim Wassenaar of Glencoe; granddaughter Jessica Halvorson of Redwood Falls; great-grandchildren: Kayden Joseph Wassenaar, Leilan Russell Halvorson, & Ava Dustie-Grace Halvorson; as well as nieces and nephews. Vernon is preceded by his parents John & Fredricka, wife Patricia, and several siblings. | |
