Patricia Ann (Dow) Northrup, Dakota name: Anpao Wáste Win (meaning Beautiful Daybreak woman), age 76 of Lower Sioux Community, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 26, 2026 at CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at the Canasayapi Rec Center on the Lower Sioux. Visitation will take place 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 at Redwood Valley Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 pm. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Patricia Ann (Dow) Northrup was born to Howard and Geraldine (Mireau) Dow on February 26, 1950, in Redwood Falls. True to her heritage, Patty created birch bark baskets, made Sugar Bush maple syrup, taught the Ojibwe language and enjoyed ricing (wild rice). She married Jim Northrup in Sawyer, MN and they enjoyed 43 years together before he passed away. Patty helped Jim in his career as writer for The Circle in Minneapolis, a playwright and author. She was well educated, having attended the University of Wisconsin, and was the director of the Treatment Center at Cass Lake. Patty was passionate about cultural preservation of tradition and was a spiritual advisor in the community; becoming a champion pow wow dancer. An accomplished artist, she spent her spare time sewing, beading, creating pottery, painting, making moccasins and pow wow regalia. In the kitchen, Patty was known to make fry bread and gabubu bread, along with canning produce. One of her hobbies was playing Keno at the casino.

Patty is survived by her children: Tony (Elaine) Dow of Redwood Falls, Lorna Dow of Lower Sioux, Calvin Dow & Aaron Northrup both of Redwood Falls, James (Lyssa) Northrup III, Matthew Northrup, Joseph (Heather) Northrup, Lucas Reynolds & Coco Reynolds all of Sawyer; many grand and great grandchildren, brothers: Dale (Jan) Weston of Newport, MN & Dugan (Lori) Dow of Lower Sioux; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, siblings: Cynthia Dow, Kathleen Dow, Bruce Dow & Lauren Dow, grandson Atreau Dow and special aunties Carol Taylor & Iola Columbus.
