Norman Lee “Butch” Sutten, age 68 of the Lower Sioux Community, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Lower Sioux Guild Hall. Burial is in St. Cornelia’s Cemetery at the Lower Sioux Community. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Norman Lee “Butch” Sutten was born July 6, 1951 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota to Cornelia Dow. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, and continued his education at Macalester College. Norm enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War. Norm was united in marriage to Donna Elaine Regguinti and the marriage later dissolved. Norm later married Dawn Marie LaPrairie and together they raised 5 children. Norm worked as a carpenter for the Federal Government where he worked on buildings and bridges in the Twin Cities. He later worked as a Pit Boss and Blackjack dealer. Butch was an activist with the American Indian Movement at Wounded Knee. He enjoyed singing for several drum groups, and loved coin collecting, playing Keno and 3-card Poker. Butch loved babies and spending time with his grandchildren.
Norm is survived by his children: Kittagakonce Sutten, Norman Mahpiya Sutten, Damion LaPrairie, and Angelique LaPrairie,; grandchildren: Delilah Savage, Naazhe Freeman Sutten, Bella Sutten, Nahshon Giniw Randall; siblings: Jennifer Dow, Pamela Anderson, Rance David “RD” Sutten, and Kimberly Sutten; one remaining aunt Carol Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norm is preceded in death by his mother Cornelia, daughter Waubunoquay Dawn Randall, sister Michelle “Mimi” Johnson, grandparents Edgar & Lucy Dow, and great-grandmother Kunsi Ellen Max.
