Arlene Mae Sam, age 87, of the Lower Sioux, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery, Lower Sioux. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Lower Sioux Guild Hall. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Arlene Mae Sam was born July 25, 1937 in Carson City, Nevada to Ernest and Elsie (Heminger Crooks) Peters. She received her education at the Morton Schools and made her home at the Lower Sioux in her grandmother’s house. Arlene raised a number of her relatives who lost their parents. She was well loved by the community and was always making people laugh. Arlene enjoyed playing cards and games, doing puzzles, listening to music, cooking, and having fires and cookouts. She treasured time spent with her family and friends. Arlene is survived by her children: Tony (Bonnie) Winkelman of the Lower Sioux & Gail (Randy) Loerzel of Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Renee (Scott) Hvamstad, Kyle Winkelman, Kris Winkelman, Trinidad Rangel, Vivian Crow DeMarco Winkelman, and Kaelin Winkelman, all of the Lower Sioux; 2 great-grandchildren: Quinn Crowther & Apollo Winkelman; brother Sheldon (Della) Wolfchild of the Lower Sioux; special friends: Jan, Jenny, Kate & Renee; and many nieces, nephews & other relatives & friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers & sisters, and son Delmer LeRoy Bloomquist. | |
