Pearl Mickelsen…97 of Miller SD, formerly of Tyler passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment is in Danebod Lutheran Cemetery in Tyler. Stephens Funeral Service – Tyler Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Pearl Margaret (Almjeld) Mickelsen was born March 15, 1915 at her parents’ farm northeast of Florence, Minnesota, the fifth child of eight to Peder and Clara (Berg) Almjeld. She was baptized and confirmed at the Opdahl Lutheran Church in Florence and attended District 58 School in Lyon County through the eighth grade. On March 15, 1934 she and Carl were united in marriage at the Ruthton parsonage. During their marriage, they lived in Tyler except for four months in 1937, when they resided in Detroit, Michigan. They had one daughter, Janice. Pearl was a member of First English Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for eight years and was a member of the Ladies Aid until she was no longer able to get around. She worked at the Tyler School kitchen from 1951 – 1977, serving as head cook from 1957 until her retirement. Through the years Pearl’s interests included reading, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and especially her family. Carl passed away December 30, 1981 and Pearl continued to live in their home until January 2004. She became severely ill with a staph infection and at that time moved to Miller, South Dakota to live with her daughter. In March, 2007, she moved to the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and sisters-in-law: Clifford and Myrtle Almjeld, Floyd and Frances Almjeld, Earl and Edna Almjeld, Clarence and Sue Almjeld, and Ben and Alice Almjeld; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary and Ernie Colburn, and Ileen and Arley Withrow. She leaves to mourn, her daughter and son-in-law: Janice and William Kost of Miller, SD and many nieces and nephews.
