Helen Gladys Okins age 84 of Redwood Falls passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Redwood Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 24 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Visitation is 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the Redwood Valley Funeral and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Interment is in Redwood Falls Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen Gladys (Frank) Okins was born April 15, 1929 in Revere, MN to Julius and Gladys (Hannon) Frank Sr. She attended school in Revere. On February 22, 1948 Helen married Vernon Okins at the Revere Lutheran Church. Together the couple lived in Revere. In 1963 they moved to Morgan. Helen worked as a cook at Gil-Mor Manor and the Morgan Public School. They moved to Redwood Falls in 1979. Helen worked as a cook at Sunwood Good Samaritan. Vernon passed away May 22, 1992. Helen recently moved to Garnette Gardens. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Revere Lutheran Church and later Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Helen enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and bowling in her younger years. She loved word search puzzles and going to the lake.
Helen is survived by children: Charles and Deb (Koll) Okins of Redwood Falls, Deb Heiling of Morgan, Mike and Joan (Schmidt) Okins of Olivia, and Steve and Jodee (Grabow) Okins of Willmar; grandchildren: Paul (Ashleigh) Okins of Pueblo, Co, Sarah Okins of Redwood Falls, Jennifer (Scott) Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Jeff (Melonie) Heiling of Springfield, Jay (LaNae) Okins of St. Joseph, Nick (Stacey) Okins of Shakopee, Ross Okins of Olivia, Jessica Okins of Harrisburg, SD , Hannah Okins of St. Paul, and Gabe Okins of Willmar; 10 great grandchildren: Chloe, Chaya, and Cainan Okins, Jordan, Alex, Bailey, and Spencer Hillesheim, Vishé and Arynzi Rabb, and Brecken Heiling. She is also survived by siblings Julius (Elaine) Frank Jr. of Lamberton and Roberta (Vern) Klante of Lucan; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, son-in-law Joe Heiling, granddaughter Jacquline, siblings Arthur Frank and Gertrude Fick.
